Why fly? Drive instead

We went on vacation last week and decided to drive the 600 miles instead of flying as we usually do.  Now days there’s just too much hassle to flying.  Here are the advantages to driving the car:

  • My seat was comfortable and adjustable.

  • I had plenty of leg room.

  • My seat mate was a person known to me.

  • My seat mate was a comfortable distance away.  We didn’t touch unless we wanted to.

  • I didn’t wait in a long line for my turn to enter the car.

  • I wasn’t searched before getting into the car.

  • I didn’t have to wait in a security line.

  • I didn’t have to take off my shoes and walk on a dirty, maybe filthy, floor while someone x-rayed my shoes.

  • I can bring anything along to eat that I want.

  • No one is going to push their baggage on top of my baggage in the cargo area.

  • I could eat when and where and what I wanted.

  • Most of the bathrooms were clean and I didn’t have to wait my turn to get into them.

  • My seat had large windows front and side with continuously changing scenery.  It didn’t dip alarmingly while I looked outside.

  • I didn’t have to worry about stuffing things I bought on the trip in my baggage or holding them on my lap while on the airplane.

  • I rested comfortably during overnight stays in a comfortable bed, with spotless sheets, and personal bathroom.  I could lock the door.

  • We didn’t have to rent an unfamiliar car and I remembered the color of the car and its license number.

What were the problems?

  • Nine hours sitting in a car each way

  • High cost of fuel

  • Meals not included and I ate more of them

  • Overnight stay in a motel with comfortable bed, spotless sheets, and spotless bathroom.

On this trip, driving won hands down for comfort and pleasure.
